You won’t need those heavy-duty cleaners to clean your microwave. All you need are these simple microwave cleaning hacks that would save your day (and your hands!).
Whether it is the overused office microwave, or the bacon grease and sauce-laden microwave at home, you can clean this busy small appliance with these simple and easy-to-follow no-scrub cleaning techniques.
There is one thing you should know when it comes to microwave cleaning: steam is your reliable partner.
Here are five microwave cleaning hacks that would make your kitchen cleaning easier and faster:
Lemon Juice
Many people are swearing by this tried and tested method in cleaning the microwave, and you should try it too. Fill a glass bowl with three or four cups of hot water, add lemon wedges and place it inside the microwave.
Alternately, you can place a bowl of water and lemon or lemon juice and heat it using the microwave, which is for about three to five minutes. The steam will do its job by not opening the door after five minutes. If there is not enough steam, microwave the mixture for another minute and leave it. After some minutes, wipe the interior with a wet microfiber cleaning cloth.
Vinegar
Another cleaning hack using steam like that of lemon is the vinegar method. In a microwaveable bowl, fill it with two cups of water and vinegar, about two tablespoons. Place this inside the microwave and run it for 5 minutes. Keep this bowl inside the microwave for another 15 minutes and let the vinegar do the work.
Carefully take out the bowl (because it is hot) and the turntable. Wipe it gently. Proceed on cleaning the interior of the microwave using a sponge or damp cloth and return the turntable after a thorough cleaning. The vinegar would smell for a little while, but it would be gone after a short time.
Dish Soap
You can also include this method in your cleaning hack, but you have to apply some light scrubbing. With a little efficiency, you can apply a little elbow grease as necessary.
Microwave cleaning with the dish soap method is the same as the two previous methods above. Again, you have to take the bowl (make sure it’s microwavable) and add 2 cups of water and dishwashing liquid into the bowl, about a teaspoon or two. Place the bowl inside the microwave and set it on for five minutes. Let it stay inside for 15 minutes to let the soap and steam do their work.
Remove the bowl and the turntable. Wipe it down and the interior of the microwave using a damp cloth or sponge. After cleaning, return the turntable to its place.
Wet Towel
This is the most convenient way to leave your microwave fresh and clean. Get a clean towel (make sure that it does not have any metal) and wet it thoroughly with water. Put this wet towel on the microwave’s turntable and heat it for 5 minutes. Leave the steamy towel inside for another 15 minutes. It will loosen up the grime and food particles. When the towel has cooled down, you can use it to wipe down the interior of the microwave.
Baking Soda
Using baking in microwave cleaning needs a little elbow grease, but they are proven highly effective. It is also affordable with the use of a product available in the pantry. The first thing to do is create a paste using 1 part water and two parts baking soda. Dab the cake on the food spills or grime and leave it for 15 minutes more to loosen the dirt up. To finish off the cleaning, wipe it down with a rag or soft sponge.
